we borrow each other’s breath/even as we bend each other’s wills

we borrow each other’s breath/even as we bend each other’s wills

by being human we mean allowing for imperfections;

meanwhile we cherish the best of our nature, which we call humanity.

(perhaps other languages are less ambiguous about this)

nations, peoples, tribes, families:

we wince at our imagined pains

rattle our imagined weapons

feast on our imagined differences

calling for more humanity

and remaining only human
