rain sounds different

on this roof.  less insistent, perhaps.

but the cold is mounting its own case.

here inside, I re-measure the lost quality of snugness:

the rugging up, like a cave dweller,

the radiant warmth of light in the face of the cold.

.

this sort of comfort,

unknown to the tropical night,

has its own quiet delights
