here comes tomorrow
at a shambling amble,
at a sprightly gait

if you squint and turn your head
you can, by observation,
change its pace

tomorrow is sending up
sky-coloured flares
tomorrow is sketching maps
in invisible ink
tomorrow is posing for photographs
and then disappearing
in the flash


tomorrow skips ahead
of the application of light,
and tomorrow has no corners


tomorrow is unscheduled,
and never on time,
massaging the back of the future
and coaxing us, coaxing us,
with curling finger,
