the verb to learn

January 12, 2017

we all learned to ride a bicycle
with the help of someone,
and to read, and to swim

our guides
who bore us into the unknown
beyond our own disbelief
ought not be
forgotten

voice in the distance
colours vibrant like a dance
a teenager in the headlights
a tear in the ointment

no golden door today,
but with a glow that
lingers, lingers, lingers
