and how he left too soon
for us to know whether
he could be as great as his name suggested

well, before we could be sure

    Spikes a memory when a few friends and I hung out with the Pretenders sans Hynde after their gig at Northern Kentucky Univeristy in September 1979 (or was it 1980). We went to a Denny’s (American chain restaurant) for a bite and the bass player had a bottle of French cognac in his coat. We were passing the bottle under the table taking swigs when the waitress wasn’t around. Life was a bit wilder then…
